Performers.

ABA Banking Journal/Furash &Co. rankings of top performing banks, we
rank the best of the best in three asset-size categories of 50 banks
each. While there were some repeat winners, 1997 saw the largest
turnover in the rankings that we've seen so far. The authors identify
several broad industry trends.

return on assets. One is a one-location bank in rural Texas, another is
a unit of a finance company, and the third specializes in Trust and
private banking.
